    1. This is an excellent noir style detective story that captures the imagination and takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of adventure. The central character is written in such a way that the reader lives the adventure through his eyes and experiences the aftermath and trying to solve it. The characters, especially Willy Whale, are incredibly well written and all meld as part of the murder/mystery being played out. The way the plot has been engineered from beginning to end is brilliant and, whi [...]

    2. Got this book in a giveaway. If you want a straight hard boiled detective novel - this may not be for you. It does all the private eye genre things well, but basically on acid. Suspend your disbelief that extra bit, and add a little magical realism to Hollywood - which after all is rather unreal anyway, and enjoy this wry dark look at life - that still contains a dash of hope. I enjoyed it, and it's also the best novel I have ever read written by a monkey.

    3. l received this book for free through Firstreads giveaway.l loved it from start to finish lt is the second book l have read by Jaxy Mono. l really enjoyed Rum and Coke but this surpasses it by far. Completely different in style and genre.l don't want to give the game away by adding a synopsis . . . ad it and see for yourself. The story is utterly preposterous but it is a roller coaster ride . . . .a thoroughly enjoyable rollercoaster ride. l didn't know what to believe. Was it a dream, a lunatic [...]

    4. I received this book from a giveaway on Good Reads and was keen to read it. However, my first attempt wasn't very successful so I put it aside for a few weeks. However, I have just finished reading it, and, although it's a departure from my usual type of detective novel, I enjoyed it. Willy Whale is a down at heel bum of a private dick, he is drawn into the apparent suicide of a Hollywood idol by finding a nose in his burger.Definitely a strange story, but enjoyable.

    5. This is a crazy tale of a P. I. on the lam from another state, plying his trade in Hollywood. It gives a very cynical view of Hollywood, and almost all of the actors and actresses there. The protagonist has his own hell to deal with, but does his best to go on living each day, not giving up, even when the forces of darkness seem about to annihilate him.

    6. This book had me wondering what I was reading. The beginning had me questioning why I was reading this book but I continued and was very surprised I expected a detective novel but his one was strange, funny and sad sometimes. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read something alittle different but you must read the whole story. Received this boof from First Read.

    7. I really liked the first half of the book, I wasn't able to stop reading and always wondering what will happen next. I little bit after the half, the style totally changed and I have to admit my attention wasn't really into the reading. I start to feel like the inspector was in a kind of drug bad trip or I don't know what. When I finished the story I was a bit upset because it wasn't what I was waiting for. But it's still a good story, just if you don't like when the style change halfway, maybe [...]
