    1. Betwixters: Once Upon a Time is about these three friends Ethan, Skye and Noah who just so happen to come across a lost, injured fairy after being chased by a bully into the Dark Woods. After finding Neevya, these three amigos make it their mission to take her back to her realm before it's too late. In this epic adventure, these kids will uncover more about their world than they ever imagine! This was such a fun book! It was filled with pure adventure, friendship, and magic. I had a slump before [...]

    2. Magical, delightful, and entertaining until the end! We read this as a family, and my son and husband both loved it. I can't wait for book 2.

    3. I think I may have a thing for middle-grade novels I mean, I haven't even read that many of them Ok, I've just counted how many middle-grade books I've read and it's more than I thought, so I retract the previous statement. I read this book in a matter of days. I wanted to devour it in one sitting, but unfortunately, life got in the way and made sure that didn't happen. This book is about faeries, magic, demons, and it was just pure enjoyment.A mysterious forest near the cosy town of Herogate is [...]

    4. Betwixters: Once Upon a Time, by Laura C. Cantu, is a fantasy for middle-grade readers with plenty of adventure and humor. It also has an anti-bullying message, which in itself makes it a worthy read for middle schoolers, who may recognize themselves in one of the characters or situations. What fantasy readers will love about this story is that it has so many elements that are appealing: a mysterious, forbidden Dark Wood, a Precarious Portal, and kingdoms with myriads of magical creatures. One m [...]

    5. This book is not for grumpy adults like me. It was on the Sci-Fi and Fantasy category though so I didn't mind having a go at it. Obviously, I made a terrible decision. I'm no longer a kid, I can't be awed by fairies (I know, it's faeries in here) unless they learn to shoot guns. I understand that this is a book for kids but still, the author could have written it better. I may not be Ole Grum's age but nothing in this book excites me. I thought it was one of those middle grade books that will ta [...]

    6. From the summary, I thought I would really enjoy this book. Fairies, nature magic, enchanted forests, secret alternate worlds, all of that sounds wonderful. Unfortunately (for me), I did not. The writing was a bit constrained, as if the writer did not fully commit to believing in the story. Like watching a ballet with a lot of waving scarves and colorful costumes, but no real story underneath. I just found it to be not very engaging.Positives: This might make a lovely story to read aloud to youn [...]

    7. This is a great example of fun fiction. Laura C Cantu includes a lot of characters, creatures, and fantastical elements in her mythology. There's something here for everyone.A light, brisk, and easy read, I can see both adults and young adults enjoying this story. Cantu reminds me somewhat of a cross between Tony DiTerlizzi and Piers Anthony.Well worth the read!

    8. This story is a great read for middle schoolers and even upper primary school advanced readers. The book has three twelve year old protagonists that are best friends, one girl and two boys. They are challenged by bullying, how far you will go for friendship, and facing their fears of letting their parents down. There is fantasy and intrigue tied up in the story, with a generous dose of mystery! This is the first book in the series and I am anxious to read the next installment. The author does an [...]

    10. This book is the first in a series of children's fantasy adventure stories. We meet Neevya, a faerie custodian of the magical forest of Ayin, who gathers sunlight beams to nourish the land. In a nice twist, Neevya doesn't believe in humans, thinking of them as mythical, monstrous beings. She is forced to change her mind when she is pulled downstream and through a Precarious Portal into the human realm. There, in the Dark Woods on the edge of Herogate in northern England, she meets 12-year-old ch [...]

Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG (some bullying and danger). The fairy Neevya knows that of all the different worlds, the human world is off limits. 12. I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure if I would as I haven't read many things involving the fantasy world of faeries, gnomes, etc. The author is truly creative. It was quite intriguing. I enjoyed the descriptive quality, especially the views of the characters including the fairy, Neevya. The characters from the "good" and the "bad" are well developed and certainly invite me as a reader to want more. I particularly like Ethan who creates a word to keep from using swear words. This is somethi [...]

We follow three friends, Noah, Ethan, and Skye, on a fantastical journey where they face creatures of the dark while trying to help a new fairy friend. This is a well written story about friendship, and what it means to truly be a friend. The three friends work together to solve a problem, and they never give up. This is such a delightful story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.I received this book from [...]

    14. Betwixters by Laura Cantu is the first book in a new series. It’s a fantastic tale full of danger and magic where three schoolchildren, Noah, Ethan and Skye assist their new fairie friend Neeyva in finding her way back to her home. While the three children are bullied at school, they are remarkably cohesive as a unit, demonstrating true friendship and steadfastness in the face of dark forces that they encounter in their adventures. This book is a good middle grade read and kids that like Harry P [...]

    16. I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.I asked for this book to enjoy with my 10 year old, and it didn't disappoint. It's a story with all the magic my kids love, adventure and friendship. What it means to truly be a friend. The characters work together over the course of the a delightful tale to solve a problem. I'll be looking forward to the next book in the series.

    17. Wonderful book for middle-graders! Magic, gnomes, a foreboding dark forest and fairies are part of this wonderful and vivid world. The characters seemed a little flat at times but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

    18. Review of BetwixtersNot the normal type of book I usual real but I found it enjoying. A good book for my grandson to read.

    19. 5th grade will enjoy this magical adventure. Fans of harry Potter, The Hobbit and other books with magical creatures will find this an enjoyable story.

    20. I was given an excerpt of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I was looking forward to reading this sample, and I wasn't too disappointed. The plot wasn't too slow in the beginning and it kept me interested the whole time. It also had more lore than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise. The author has a writing style that is very unique, but I'm afraid it just didn't work for me. However, I don't think that's going to stop me from getting the book. I would recomme [...]

    21. Thank you to Netgalley for this e-reader in return for an honest opinion. In truth, I'm having a difficult time with this review. Although the story was good, it just never got there for me. Magic, gnomes, a foreboding dark forest - all elements in a dark fairy tale. Yet it lacked intensity. Plus fairies - don't think I'm really into them. This alone will have an impact on the audience despite strong male characters. The ending bothered me as well. Despite everything they had gone through to hel [...]
