    1. Woyzeck is a play that is harsh, often vicious and like most of Georg Büchner's opus, much ahead of its time. Not all that difficult to read and understand if one's level of German is above basic intermediate, Woyzeck tugs at all emotions and provides ample food for thought, reflection and discussion. Highly recommended, and as an adjunct, I also suggest watching the film version of Woyzeck, starring the late, great Klaus Kinski (who for me absolutely epitomises the character of Woyzeck, of a s [...]

    4. Oh my God, German, why you gotta be so friggin' difficult? I wanted to cry so many times reading this. First modern drama. Catalyst for German Naturalist movement. Psychological realism. Man is free, but society is corrupted and immoral and fucked up, so we're all fucked up. Stab that bitch dead. Suffering is pointless but inevitable. Oh, life is just bullshit, isn't it? I admired this play for its brevity (Bücher died before he finished it, but still) and yet its ability to mean so much.

    6. Admittedly, the only reason I read this book was that I really want to see the movie adaption with Klaus Kinski, who is known for his talent to 'play' madmen (not gonna lay, he seemed fairly mad himself), and for that, I decided to give Georg Büchner a second chance. Georg Bücher and I certainly didn't get along when I read Danton's Death for school two years ago; to be quite honest, I hated it to the bone. And probably even more. Now, Woyzeck is not exactly good either, but it's much better, [...]

    9. Hasan Kuruyazıcı'nın önsözünü okumasaydım oyundan pek bir şey anlayamazdım.Büchner 'in kısa ömrüne sığdırdığı 3 oyundan biri.Kısa bir alıntı:"Her insan bir uçurumdur; başın döner dibine baktın mı! "

    10. A constant in my life since I read it my first year of college. I saw it once in Vienna and again in Paris with an IB class. I wish I'd been able to see Tom Waits's version.

    12. Woyzeck as a victim of society. If you loved this book as much as I did, Werner Herzog's film adaptation starring Klaus Kinski is a must see.

    17. Woyzeck is facinating for its commentary on social class in a rapidly developing world that categorizes people based on their money, power/authority, and use of time. However, Büchner's misogyny is disturbing and ruins my ability to enjoy the play. He poses Woyzeck as a Christ figure, who has strange visions about the Apocalypse. (Un)coincidentally, Woyzeck describes his wife, Marie, as a demon dressed sinfully in black and red throughout the play. This stems from her cheating on him with anoth [...]

    18. Incomplete at the author’s death in 1837, the fragments of this expressionistic play were not published until 1879 but have become the basis for an opera, films, and numerous productions as well as an influence on playwrights such as Brecht. One of my college roommates was a big fan of Georg Buchner and the opera based on Woyzeck, and finally reading the play, I can appreciate the power, insight, and creativity of its presentation. Read for Modern Drama class.

    19. *I own a different edition which isn't available on here*Had to read this for German class, language wise it was pretty interesting, however a bit hard to understand. Wouldn't pick this up without knowing about the real Woyzeck and you'll need some knowledge about the French Revolution/events in Europe around that time. Enjoyed reading one of his (the authors) leaflets which was also included in my edition. (Actually I probably enjoyed that more than the actual story). Loved the explanations and [...]

    21. i was itching to give this book just one star, but i think part of my reason for that would have been the teacher who made us read it, i tried to imagine what i would have thought of it if i had read it of my own free will. so i decided the "it was ok" star is betterke i said, we read this in school with a substitute (who looked like my idea of woyzeck, which was a bit freaky) and we didn't like him very much. first of all, he was having a lot a trouble ordering the books, so we wound up reading [...]

    25. 'It was ok', but nothing more. The drama was never completed, even the order of the scenes is uncertain. Most of the them don't connect to each other and make no sense in the context of the story, because Büchner died before he was able to finish "Woyzeck".One good thing after all: You can read it in about half an hour.
