What is CSCS training course?
CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry. Since the 1st of July 2014 applying for the New CSCS Green Labourer Card candidates would need to do the New Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment Course, as well as pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test to be able to apply for the Card.
CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.
The Scheme keeps a database of people working in construction who have achieved, or are committed to achieving a recognised construction related qualification.
We can book the exam for you, that is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test and if you wish you could for Forty Pounds (£40), sit a mock exam with us before going to do the actual exam at one of their centres.
Alternatively, you can book the CSCS training course only, if you have already taken the operatives test.
Most principal contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid CSCS card, which can only be gained through CSCS training course.
CSCS training course content
- Importance of working around plant and equipment safety
- Importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
- Importance of working safely at height in the workplace
- Risks to health within a construction environment
- Principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety
On CSCS training course completion successful candidates will receive a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment certificate, from an awarding body within England and Wales that is recognised by Ofqual and Department for Education and Skills.
Why you need a CSCS card
Individuals will be required to hold a valid CSCS card to work on a construction site. Security guards are required to hold a CSCS Construction Related Occupation (CRO) Card, which is valid for 5 years. To obtain this card, you must have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test and attended the relevant training to help you do so.
The reason security personnel must hold a CSCS card is to show that they can work safely on a construction site. During security patrols during the day and night, individuals must be aware of the specific health and safety risks that are exclusive to a construction site. This is so that they can work safely and efficiently, minimising the possibility of an accident.
Those trying to find work on a construction site will find it very difficult to gain employment, as CSCS has been the industry standard since January 2015.
Do you always need a CSCS card and a SIA licence?
When working as security personnel on a construction site you will always need a CSCS card and a SIA licence, but the type of licence you require may change depending on your job role. For example, individuals who are hired to monitor CCTV will need to hold the relevant CCTV operative SIA licence.
